How to Get Rid of Tough Toilet Stains

We spend approximately 11 days in our bathrooms every year according to Easy Bathrooms, so it's important that we keep them as clean as possible. While cleaning the bathroom is a hated task for most people, adding these simple tasks to your daily routine will stop mess and germs from building up and make the job easier.

From the best limescale remover to how to clean grout, here are seven things people with spotless bathrooms do everyday.

1. Spray the shower walls after your morning wash

Sick of a cloudy looking shower? After you've showered, take a minute to spray the walls with a mixture of water and vinegar – keep a spray bottle of the mix in the bathroom to make it even quicker.

Next, use a squeegee to wipe down the tiles and shower door. If you've got a shower curtain, stretch it out to help it dry.

If you need to remover limescale, the Viakal Limescale remover is one of the best products GHI cleaning experts have used on shower screens, but you need to rub hard after using it.

2. Tumble dry towels

After you've finished with your towels, pop them into the tumble dryer for a quick spin. It will keep them fresher for longer.

GHI Tip: The build-up of limescale, particularly in hard-water areas, can also affect softness of towels. Regularly run your washing machine on empty, using the hottest cycle, with a cup of distilled white wine vinegar in the detergent drawer, to prevent this build-up transferring to your towels.

3. Air the room

Switch on the extractor fan every time you use the bathroom – or crack open a window after every shower or bath – to stop mould developing.

Already have mould and need to clean the grout in your bathroom? HG Mould Spray is effective at removing mould on grouting, as well as sealant, leaving them as good as new. Ensure you follow pack instructions.

4. Stay on top of jobs

Give the sink a quick wipe and the loo a quick swirl with the brush at the end of every day – there will be less to do when it's time for the big clean.

Want to prevent slow-draining plugholes? Once a month pour a kettle of boiling water over a cup of washing soda crystals scattered around each plughole.

5. Keep a clothes hamper in the bathroom

That way, you can pop your clothes straight in when you strip off for a shower, and say goodbye to getting them wet when you accidentally step on them instead of the bath mat!

6. Give it a quick vacuum

Dust and hair seem to multiply in the bathroom and get into every nook and cranny. Keep them under control by giving the room a quick once-over with a hand-held vac every day.

Alternatively, use an anti-bacterial wipe to pick up dust bunnies easily - always put it in the waste and not down your toilet.

7. Catch messes before they get worse

Keep a microfibre cloth handy in the bathroom to quickly rub off toothpaste splatters, watermarks and other stains before they dry and become harder to remove. We like the e-cloth range. You only need to add water, so no chemicals are required.
